I've been out of the action for a while.

Downtown -- Anodyne, Burt's Tiki Lounge, Blackbird, Launchpad (for music), Marble (for beer), One Up (for pseudo swank)

Nob Hill --Gecko's (although it's a little dude-ly), Imbibe (if you want to smoke and be around boring people), O'Neil's, Zinc's basement bar

Santa Fe -- The Matador, Del Charro Saloon, Corazon

other -- Silva's Saloon in Bernalillo

There would be more if New Mexico didn't drive up liquor license prices to six figures, and require fairy dust and a yeti hide in the application.

The Press Club is sweet. Best porch in town.

If you want to feel nostalgic for college while resting assured the guy next to you is going to puke on your shoes.

Chama River: I used to enjoy that place, but the last few times I dropped in the patrons sat in a line at the bar, all greasy, watching sports and listening to bad reggae. Not my idea of a good time. And they only have beer (same for Marble).

Joe's: Snaggle-toothed heshers.

is weird and harsh and cold and gross. The patrons are weird and harsh and cold and gross too. And so are the bartenders. That place has always creeped me out. It's not a dive bar either. Dive bars generally have friendly folks in them and are divey because they've been around for a good 25 years or so.

It reminds me of an antisocial punk scene.

I've seen excellent shows there, plus (aside from El Madrid) they have the only working juke box downtown. Yes, some of the bartenders are assholes, but some are really nice.

I like bars with booze.

Congratulations to Marble Brewery for Best of Burque. I have crossed them off my list of local brewerys that I will go to.
