Sonic Reducer
Michael Henningsen dismantles U2's latest extraordinary, sometimes self-absorbed opus that, in the end, reflects the band's middle-aged brilliance.
Weatherize Your Home and Save Some Dough
Weatherization is not the law, but it is a good idea. The tale of Armitha French provides lessons in energy conservation for us all.
Ortiz y Pino
Our resident columnist sounds off on the latest politically motivated drive to put more kids behind bars in a misguided effort to make society a better place.
Blue Note
Far removed from the mind-numbing holiday music courtesy of so many long-dead crooners and every contemporary country music artist known to mankind, Kitka's Macedonian-based music aims straight for the soul and hits its mark without exception.
Eating In
Retro party snacks exclusive. Tip number one: For a holiday party, host the party you and your friends would like to attend, not the one you think you should host. It all starts with the apps.
Bright Leaves
Like Morgan Spurlock's Super Size Me from earlier this year, Bright Leaves brings up a lot of salient cultural points asking exactly why Americans are so hell-bent on destroying their own health.
The Story of O
How could something that most of us only experience for 12 minutes a year be the driving force of humanity? A new book explores the rich, strange history of the O.
Gallery Review: This House is Not a Home
No Rule of Thumb at the Downtown Contemporary Art Center is didactic, in-your-face, message art, but it really couldn't function any other way.

RSSRaw posts and updates from our writers with info too timely or uncategorizable for print. What, we said something stupid? Chime in, buddy.

Webgame Wednesday:The Great Gatsby

This has been around for a while, but with Baz Luhrmann's 3D version of The Great Gatsby doing gangbusters at the box office, it seems like a fine time to revisit the (faux) NES version of The Great Gatsby. This straight-faced, side-scrolling brawler take on F. Scott Fitzgerald's seminal Jazz Age novel is fun, fitting and proof positive that Luhrmann isn't the only guy around screwing with the classics.

The Daily Word in shady dentistry, bear bile and riding a Ferris wheel for way too long

    The Daily Word

New Mexico's at the top of the list! Of worst droughts in the country!

And pumping water out of the ground just isn't working like it used to.

"El Dentista," an unlicensed dentist in Santa Fe who performed his "services" out of a van, left a trail of mouth infections and unnecessarily removed teeth in his wake. The New Mexico Department of Health is offering free counseling, blood testing and referrals to his victims. But remember, it could be worse.

Developers in Oklahoma are resistant to the idea of including tornado shelters in their homes because it costs too much money. Sad trombone.

Clinton Shepherd of Chicago just finished riding a Ferris wheel for two days straight. "I was thrilled and honored to be able to have all the love and support I did," Shepherd said.

And it turns out that increasing demand for bear bile (used in a nonsense "home-remedy") is really bad for bears.
