Tako Kichi means “kite crazy” in Japanese. Kichi is a good word to know because it seems the Japanese are kichi for so many things—tea ceremonies, folding kimonos and arranging flowers—all of which involve meticulous attention to detail.

Pity the poor teenaged Disney star. Sure, they get three or four good years headlining a sitcom on the Disney Channel and a couple of pop hits out of it. But they spend the next 10 years trying desperately to shed their goody two-shoes image.
What happened exactly to turn us into a nation of lazy peeping toms, content to passively ogle people we’d never want to interact with in real life? Why would we tune in, week after week, to watch the Kardashians do nothing entertaining, exciting or even vaguely interesting?
Former state senator Dede Feldman describes her first legislative session in 1997 as “a little like riding a motorcycle in a thunderstorm in the nude.” Sound like an exaggeration? It isn't. Legislative sessions in New Mexico can be terrifying, bombastic and exhilarating.
Most people know about Cher from her illustrious music career. Hits like “I Got You Babe” and “The Beat Goes On,” with her former husband and music partner Sonny Bono, put her in the public eye. But her solo hits “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe”—which, I'll admit, was a personal obsession of mine as a child—are what catapulted her to iconic status.
Given that it was shot here in New Mexico, it would be nice to heap praise on a show that contributes to the local economy and could bring gainful employment to New Mexicans for years to come. But “Breaking Bad” this ain’t.
