David Culp, a lobbyist for the Friends Committee on National Legislation will discuss public efforts to halt additional nuclear weapons development programs during this time of Federal budgetary debates regarding how to apply the sequester across military and civilian programs.Culp has 15 years' experience on nuclear arms control and disarmament legislation. He is one of 6 registered lobbyists on nuclear disarmament on Capitol Hill.The talk takes place Monday, June 17th at 7:00 pm at the Albuquerque Friends Meetinghouse at 1600 5th St., NW, Albuquerque, NM 87102. Culp's presentation will be followed by a discussion period. Light refreshments will be served.

Three functional potters make work that is visually appealing and inviting.

Each artist works with porcelain, the stongest and whitest of clays. They achieve their unique styles through exquisite forms and surface treatments that reference fabric, history and pure imagination.

Adam Field, of Colorado, meticulously carves the surfaces of his work. He has traveled the world collecting a vast knowledge of pattern language. The carvings incorporate historical influences from baskets and fabrics, and also mimic natural motifs. Clean and sophisticated, no detail is over looked; even the small foot on every mug is rich with carved detail.

Ben Krupka, from Massachusetts, brings a soft approach to traditionally crisp porcelain. His pieces are painted and carved, incorporating designs that invoke narrative. Clouds float across the surfaces of his pots, creating fields of color, and doodle-like sketches cut through the color with nostalgic images.

Lorna Meaden, also from Colorado, throws, stretches, alters and reassembles her functional wares. She scribes tiny black lines on the surfaces creating patterns that follow the flowing forms. Surface inspiration comes from medieval costumes and everyday repeats, such as the bricks on her kiln.

A special exhibit that displays the advances in aircraft design and technology from the Wright Brothers to the Space Shuttle. Experience your own flight in a computerized simulator in order to understand the concepts of pitch, roll and yaw. “Dynamics of Flight” will give you a new appreciation for aeronautics and the incredible changes this industry has made to our world. The exhibit runs through the end of the year. The Museum is open daily, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Outdoor projections on the Railyard Plaza by Santa Fe Univ. of Arts & Design's Vision Fest, Jake Snider, and August Muth at Axel Contemporary.The Festival offers two weeks of New Media Arts exhibitions, screenings of experimental documentary video, panel discussions, workshops, multimedia performances and docent tours for youth groups and the general public. This year, work by artists from the United States, Great Britain, Singapore, Brazil, Finland, Australia, Cyprus, Canada, Italy, Portugal, Germany, Ireland, France, China, Czechoslovakia and Greece were selected. Video and interactive installations; art gaming; social media art; digital dome screenings; multimedia performances as well as exquisite, articulate single channel video – narrative, abstract, personal and social – with compelling content and imagery will be shown at El Museo in the Railyard and venues throughout the city of Santa Fe, NM.
