She's a beautiful, perfect little baby. And she's already got just a hint of her daddy's smirk ... good job, you two!

Bucolic  [ Thu Jul 19 2012 12:58 PM ]

Actually, as part of the 4,300 acres of Open Space that's adjacent to the Bosque, the WalMart site backs up to about 20 acres of Open Space-managed farmland that actively grows "corn, sorghum, millet, and alfalfa that feed winter migratory birds and other local wildlife, including pollinators."

... So that's, you know, the definition of bucolic.

That's sort of what we do at my work  [ Thu May 3 2012 6:07 PM ]

Lay out your ground beef onto a cookie sheet and pour some melted butter over it. The cold meat will cause the butter to congeal, which is what you want--pockets of buttery goodness.

Only, we don't use butter. McMagnifique!

Wholesome goodness  [ Fri Mar 23 2012 12:05 PM ]

This is kind of pointing to how we define "healthy" food in the U.S. Fatty sounds bad. Lean sounds good, and so the "healthier alternative" is actually extruded, ammonia-treated meat factory reject scraps.

Doesn't add up  [ Fri Mar 23 2012 10:49 AM ]

Food costs won’t increase, he adds.

If the decision to use meat filler wasn't based on cutting costs, what was the incentive to start using it in the first place? Flavor?

Sounds like the manufacturer got a sweetheart deal with some powerful people. I wonder how much they're getting in return.

Pure poetry!  [ Tue Mar 13 2012 1:20 PM ]

At length, I asked my server what she would recommend. She suggested chicken Alfredo, and I went with that. Instead of the raspberry lemonade she suggested, I drank water.

She first brought me the familiar Olive Garden salad bowl with crisp greens, peppers, onion rings and yes — several black olives. Along with it came a plate with two long, warm breadsticks.

The chicken Alfredo ($10.95) was warm and comforting on a cold day. The portion was generous. My server was ready with Parmesan cheese.

As I ate, I noticed the vases and planters with permanent flower displays on the ledges. There are several dining areas with arched doorways. And there is a fireplace that adds warmth to the decor.
