Little Anita's

2105 Mountain Road NW (Old Town)
Albuquerque NM
(505) 242-3102‎
Cuisine: New Mexican

2.08 rating (6 votes)
Little Anita's menu is New Mexican to the core, with enchiladas, burritos, carne adovada and stuffed sopaipillas. The red chile is generally milder than their green but is seasoned just right. Consistency, generous portions and fair prices make Little Anita's an Albuquerque mainstay—not to mention its many locations ranging from full-service dining to quick and easy take-out counters. The Old Town location offers the best of both worlds. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

  • Don't dismiss Little Anita's as a chain - it's very, very good.  [ Mon Jul 19 2010 12:32 PM ]

I get the impression that some people dismiss Little Anita's as a legitimate option for New Mexican food, and while I won't deny that the usual heavy hitters (Mary & Tito's, El Patio, Perea's, Duran's, etc.) are fantastic, they all have their signature quirks, leaving Little Anita's in some ways as the quintessential Platonic Ideal of New Mexican food. It's Northern New Mexican cuisine done by the book and done very well. Their red is great, their green is great, their carne adovada is great, their sopaipillas are great… even their rice is great. There's just absolutely nothing dissatisfying about the experience. Don't let the food snobs bring you down; Little Anita's is fantastic, and remains one of your better options to satisfy a New Mexican craving.

  • Dismiss Little Anita's as a chain - it's very, very gross.  [ Thu Jul 22 2010 10:41 AM ]

Are you, like, from Vermont or something? Or just a superfan of tides of grey greasy beans and wack salsa? The last time I decided to give Little Anita's another chance on account of living right next to one, I was on suicide watch for the next three days.

  • I like Little Anitas  [ Thu Jul 22 2010 11:45 AM ]

I don't know what one you frequent, Betty, but I've never had a gross meal at the one in Old Town. Everything I've ever eaten there has been decent. It's better than some Garcia's dishes.

I particularly like the carne adovada and also the cheese enchiladas with green and red. I like their beans, rice and their chips. I can't remember the salsa, it wasn't great enough to be memorable.

Is it the best New Mexican food I've ever had? No. But I personally would not classify it as gross. It's good food for the price. And the portions are hefty.

don't let the food snobs bring you down. Try it with an open mind.

  • The Food...  [ Thu Jul 22 2010 1:58 PM ]

...is barely passable, but in my decades of giving them many second chances, I find the service to be consistently shitty and inattentive.

  • I've never heard anyone  [ Thu Jul 22 2010 5:59 PM ]

    talk about Little Anita's.

  • Muy Malo!!!  [ Sun Feb 17 2013 7:09 PM ]

I visited the Old Town location and it was Horrible. The fish that they use in their fish tacos is the frozen-breaded kind that you get at the grocery store and the tortillas were not cooked and soggy. When I tried to pick up the tacos they just felt apart and the rice and beans were not hot. The manager did not care about it. This place used to feel more authentic New Mexican, now after the renovation looks more like a Taco Bell, even the music was changed. They used to play more classic Mexican music now they play salsa and merengue. Pretty sad, because this restaurant will give a bad impression of our city to tourist.

  • Why would you order fish tacos  [ Mon Feb 18 2013 12:16 PM ]

    at a New Mexican restaurant?

  • All Little Anita's are not created equal!  [ Mon Feb 18 2013 5:03 PM ]

The one on Alameda/Coralles rd is excellent for example, while the one on North Fourth is horrible. And the North Fourth one used to be excellent while the Alameda one used to not exist.

  • A dose of reality  [ Tue Feb 19 2013 6:53 PM ]

Mexican has to be the last food to be turned into a cuisine. A lot of places try but it resists. Mexican food is but not immune to cuisinification though so may I suggest those finding it suicide-worthy not aid the process but refrain from eating Mexican food altogether. That way the rest of us may get our fix as & where we may....

The Little Anita's here in Ventana Ranch sucks.

I'd much rather drive 20 minutes and go to Sadie's.

To call Little Anita's "New Mexican" is shameful.
