They Call it Myanmar: Lifting the Curtain
Secretly lensed over the course of two years by Cornell professor and best-selling novelist Robert H. Lieberman, this documentary takes viewers on a tour of the locked-down nation of Myanmar (formerly Burma). Assembled from more than 120 hours of clandestine footage, the film is mostly a lovely, tone-poem portrait of the oppressed-but-not-depressed Burmese people. Lieberman is more of a wide-eyed tourist than an investigative journalist. He does, however, manage to snag an interview with Aung San Suu Kyi, the Mandela-esque political-prisoner-turned-politician. A rare glimpse inside an all-but-unknown Asian nation.
