Before you even ask or say something cute, it is in fact that band in recent memory most associated with Will Ferrell furiously tapping the cow bell on Saturday Night Live, much to the delight of faux-producer Christopher Walken. But they had quite the musical career before that, too; one known for putting on such shows that even my Parrothead mother was somehow in attendance. The activities that took place that night were enough to make her banish me from any semblance of a "concert" or "show" throughout the better part of my youth. Blue Öyster Cult went on to sell more than 14 million albums worldwide and were responsible for influencing many psychadelic rock and heavy metal bands today. Green is a highly revered color in New Mexico: From the color of the chile smothered over just about everything, to our plentiful renewable energy resources, green truly is the new black. This Saturday at 3 p.m., listen to a group of experts known as Girls Gone Green at the Unitarian Universalist Westside Congregation (1650 Abrazo NE, Rio Rancho). The group of girls in grades 5 through 7 gives passionate talks on how to conserve energy and reduce our carbon footprint.
