Haul Out Your Easel and Head for the Hills—It's time for the Wildlands Art! 2006 exhibit and fundraiser. Create photographs, paintings, sculptures or other types of artwork depicting New Mexico's extraordinary wilderness or wild public lands, and send it into the New Mexico Wilderness Alliance by Feb. 1. Do It for the Money — In other contest news, the Rio Grande Art Association is sponsoring a juried competition featuring approximately $3,500 in cash and prizes. The exhibit will be on display in the Fine Arts Building at Expo New Mexico during May. The deadline for digital submissions and slides is March 8. Open House — Conrad House died in 2001. His brief but illustrious artistic career led to an international reputation as a high-caliber, versatile artist capable of concocting brilliant beadwork, ceramics, collage, drawings, glass, paintings and textiles. The first comprehensive retrospective of his work opens at UNM’s Jonson Gallery (1909 Las Lomas NE) this Friday, Jan. 20, with a reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will run through March 10. Exhibit 51—The Heights gallery opens a new show this week featuring Gary Genetti's glass art, ornamented with animal and plant shapes that have an almost classical look about them.
