Lots of Thanks—Undo that buckle, unzip those pants, lean back on the couch and just wait it out. Don't even think about getting up and walking around. What? Are you crazy? You could hurt yourself! Your intestines are about to burst wide open. Now isn't the time for any sudden movements. Just sit back and work through the pain, eventually all that excess food will dissipate into either your digestive system or the municipal sewage system. Shouldn't take longer than 24 hours or so.
Once you're mobile again, consider heading over to the Outpost Performance Space (210 Yale SE) for Joan Weissman's annual Rug Sample Sale. Weissman's contemporary hand-knotted Tibetan rugs, hand-tufted rugs and tapestries are highly coveted by collectors around the world, and this sale offers an opportunity to pick them up for 50 to 75 percent off the regular price. A benefit for the Outpost, the event will also feature music by Tecolote. The shindig runs from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 24, and continues—sans Tecolote—on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. 268-0044, www.joanweissman.com.
If rugs aren't your thing, stop by the Gorilla Tango Comedy Theatre (519 Central NW) for a special Thanksgiving Weekend Improv Show on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m. I anticipate some food- and family-themed comedy, and maybe a few jokes at the expense of the Pilgrims. Should be a riot. Tickets are $10. 245-8600.
Over at the N4th Theatre (4904 Fourth Street NW), on Friday, Nov. 24, and Saturday, Nov. 25, at 8 p.m., you can also catch TchéTché, a contemporary African dance troupe from the Ivory Coast founded in 1997 to "show that women are not the weaker gender." Tickets for this Global DanceFest production are $15 general, $12 students/seniors. 345-2872 or visit www.vsartsnm.org.
