Culture Shock

Extended Run—Eat, Drink and Be Larry’s new comedy spectacular, Macbeth in Space, gets an extended run this weekend at the Box Performance Space (1025 Lomas NW). The production is directed by Jason Witter and features the Alibi’s own Devin O’Leary. It tells the story of a frozen Macbeth who wakes up 400 years in the future and starts murdering people. Sound like a good time? You bet. Check it out Friday, June 1, and Saturday, June 2, at 10:30 p.m. and Sunday, June 3, at 8 p.m. $8. 404-1578.

Negotiating the Presence—Last year, David Koch put up a brilliant solo exhibit at the Inpost Artspace that focused on a single, simple metaphor comparing wrecked cars to wrecked relationships. This weekend, he'll be opening a new show at Matrix Fine Art (3812 Central SE) that examines a similar theme but with a little more subtlety and a much wider range of imagery. (Sushi, anyone?) Negotiating the Presence opens this Friday, June 1, with a reception from 5 to 8 p.m. It runs through June 30. For more information, call 268-8952.

The Source—I'm not sure the venue can live up to its name. If The Source for Creating Sacredness were really the source for creating sacredness, the operators would have a goldmine on their hands. Could you make this plastic spoon sacred, please? Sure, but it'll cost you three not-so-easy payments of $39.99.

Despite the funky name, the alternative health center (1111 Carlisle SE) is hosting an art and kid's festival this Saturday, June 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. that will include art demos and children's activities. Sounds like a fun family event. Several artists from VSA/North Fourth Street Art Center will be on hand, and the festival will also mark the opening of a one-woman retrospective of acrylic, mixed media and watercolor paintings by Barbara Besser. Admission is free. For details, call 463-5224 or go to www.thesource-abq.com.
