Blue Winds Dancing

A new exhibit of Native American art, organized by the New Orleans Museum of Art, opens this weekend at the Albuquerque Museum (2000 Mountain NW). Consisting of baskets, textiles, apparel and beadwork from the collection of Thomas and Mercedes Whitecloud, the exhibit provides a look at aspects of Native American art rarely seen firsthand here in the Southwest. The show opens this Sunday, Aug. 12, and runs through Oct. 21. Admission to the museum is $3 for New Mexico residents with ID, $2 for seniors and $1 for kids under 13. Entrance is free on the first Wednesday of the month and every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. For more information, call 243-7255 or go to www.cabq.gov/museum.

Hiland Ho!

The Hiland Theatre is getting a much-needed spit-and-shine. As part of this ongoing renovation, a photo-mural is being designed to cover the entire front of the building. Organizers want to include as many photographs of local performers and performing arts groups as possible. Images will need to be sharp because most of them will be reproduced at life-size or larger. Want some free publicity? Send your shots of local musicians, actors, singers, dancers, etc. to Eric Sipfle at eric@subia.com or call 238-8325.
