The bulk of LAND/ART, an ambitious project of land-based art in New Mexico, gets going in mid June. 516 ARTS, the collaboration's organizer, starts things off a little earlier with its contribution Here & There: Seeing New Ground. Sixteen artists, including Norman Akers, Shelley Niro and Laurie Anderson, explore the connections between nature, art, land and identity. The opening reception takes place on Friday, June 5, from 5 to 8 p.m. at 516 ARTS (516 Central SW). For more info, go to 516arts.org, and stay tuned for the Alibi's upcoming coverage of the whole LAND/ART project.
While it's true that the show must go on, it can't do so indefinitely. Both Tricklock's Catgut Strung Violin and Mother Road's Life During Wartime wrap up this weekend, so if you haven't already (and, OK, maybe even if you have), get your should-
And should you find yourself itching for a road trip to cooler climes, one that ideally would involve poetry, well then, howdy! Do I got a festival for you! It's the Verse Converse Poetry Festival in Taos, on Friday, June 5, through Sunday, June 7. Attend workshops and enjoy performances by Jimmy Santiago Baca, Kenn Rodriguez and Cuffee, among others. Full weekend passes are $85, $55 for students and seniors. A $65 pass will get you into two workshops and all performances. Find out what to do next at openheartharts.org.
It's closing time, kids. As of Friday, June 5, at noon, your chances to enter the Alibi's Flash Fiction contest are kaput. If you're reading this before the final gun, shoot your entries (no more than two per person) of 119 words max to email@example.com. But even if you didn't manage to enter, your involvement is key. On Sunday, June 21, we're having our first-ever Flash Fiction Party to celebrate the crafters of microstories. Head over to O'Niell's from 5 to 8 p.m. and hear the winners from our contest, along with local luminaries and other talent to be revealed. There will be music and the chance for all readers (including you) to compete for prizes and affection. The night before, on Saturday, June 20, Alibi celebrity (?) bartenders will be pouring pints for a reading charity at the same bar. Come by and contribute. Keep your eyes peeled for more party info.
