Prince Dauntless the Drab (James Mills) confers with his mother Queen Aggravain (Amelia Cavallo) in Once Upon A Mattress .

Queen Agravain insists that only a princess with the bluest blood will be good enough for her darling son, Prince Dauntless the Drab. When Princess Winfred appears at the castle one day drenched to the bone with filthy moat water she has the audicity to declare herself eager to marry the prince. The queen isn't sure she's adequate so she devises a test to determine if Winfred really is the princess she claims to be.

When it premiered in 1959, starring Carol Burnett as Princess Winnifred it was a huge hit. UNM Theatre and Dance will open its new season with a production at the Rodey directed by Terry Davis.
