And the Winners Are ...

Nearly a year ago, the New Mexico Book Co-op announced it would hold the first-ever New Mexico Book Awards. Hundreds of submissions and a few paper cuts later, the NMBC and its distinguished panel of scholars, booksellers and librarians announced the winners during an awards banquet on Nov. 9. The event honored New Mexico authors and publishers for their hard work and dedication to the written word and included a presentation of lifetime achievement awards to Rudolfo Anaya and Tony Hillerman. Since we all couldn't attend, the following is a list of a few titles that garnered New Mexico Book Award-winner status. For a complete list, visit here. Los Desaparecidos/The Disappeared at SITE Santa Fe

Sixty-six human femurs form a 10-foot-tall outline of the Chilean flag. The earth brown of the bones creates a stark contrast within the sterile, well-lit space at SITE Santa Fe. From the door, the flag seems to be made from crumbling pieces of weather-beaten wood.
