Trombino's Bistro Italiano has been an institution of family-style Italian dining in the Heights for more than 30 years. It houses an impressively fat menu that includes a full bar, espresso drinks and an ample wine list. The service is quicker than a Hollywood marriage, and the waitstaff seems particularly knowledgeable about the food and wines. Gravitate to the more rustic Italian fare—lemon-basil chicken salad, grilled homemade Italian sausage, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus and manicotti--all are amply portioned and tasty.

Formerly known as The Fox and Hound, Craft Republic remains true to typical sports bars: hip-hop music blasting, TVs blaring and pretty waitresses bustling. But one glance at the extensive menu is all it takes to clue you in that it is a fine restaurant, as well. There’s no shame here, fill your comfort food needs with everything from BBQ chipotle burgers to “The Dilemma:” a hand-battered crispy chicken sandwich with bacon, maple miso butter and a sunny-side up fried egg.

Chow down on “New Mexican soul food” and wash it all down with American Beer Festival and World Beer Cup-winning brews. The Imperial cream ale is crisp and smooth, the milk stout is rich and creamy. Not a beer person? Go for Black Mesa wines or Santa Fe Cider Works hard ciders.

This local brewery is a great spot for lunch, meet-ups or just taking a breather after work. Pair a juicy patty melt and truffle fries with a nice, dark Problem Child porter or a refreshingly hoppy Starrstruck IPA. Also show up for fun events like Brew Bees, soccer tournament watch parties and paint nights.

There’s no pizza here, but there are satisfying sandwiches. As always, the ingredients are top-notch, the microbrews are award-winning, and the home-brewed root beer float is a real treat.

Aside from the obvious priority of providing a fine selection of local beers, the customer service is top-knotch. We prefer the malty, bready pale ale, the Horned Honey Pale. Make sure to keep up to date on their seasonal beers like the summer 2017 Sour Cherry Wit or Flanders red ale.

The 377 makes a point to honor the men and women who have served in America's armed forces and public safety, which is likely why they’ve set up near Kirtland Airforce Base. They offer a variety of house brews and aim to create new beers every season. We prefer their Mexican lager.

This small restaurant has a straightforward goal: to serve the best damn local-beef hamburgers and microbrewed beers around. With eight burgers to choose from—including the delectable Nawlins with bleu cheese—and 33 local beers on tap, the joint should be a beacon for anyone with a carnivorous appetite while a selection of meatless burgers and impressive salads should satisfy vegetarians.

Bosque’s freshly expanded taproom in the Nob Hill/University Heights area is a must try on your brewery tour list, especially as their food is top notch. This location offers a sunny patio, too. The happy hour menu is a must, and the sandwiches are pretty great all around, especially the caprese and the Italian.

The latest edition to the craft beer scene in Albuquerque, High and Dry Brewing has only a handful of flagship beers on tap at the moment, but they’re all pretty tasty. The place is owned by the good folks at Humble Coffee, so you know it looks real cute inside—and you can get Humble Coffee there when you’ve had enough of the whole alcohol thing. The small patio is a great spot to soak up some Vitamin D and put away a couple pints. There’s usually a food truck or two parked there from the middle of the afternoon on, so come hungry.

Il Vicino’s thin-crusted, gourmet-topped pizzas are perennial favorites among Alibi readers, but the big salads are equally popular. Order at the register, and a server brings the food to your table, making weekday lunches speedy. The open kitchen gives you something to stare at while you wait. Stop in for a quick lunch or a late afternoon microbrew at one of the sidewalk tables.
