The old home of Pearl's Dive has a new lease on life. Brainchild of local band The Dirty Novels, the Blackbird has been appropriately rock ’n’ rolled with excellent music, black-clad waitresses and a cool look. There are an impressive number of draft and bottled beers, and a few nice wines by the glass, which are fan-freaking-tastic on the back patio. By the way, "buvette" (boo-vet) is a loose French translation for "refreshment bar." Now you’re really in the know.

Best of Burque 2009 (Best Dive Bar): Technically speaking, a dive bar indicates an establishment of ill repute. Furthermore, while we're being technical, Burt's Tiki Lounge is a tiki bar. In any case, however rough around the edges it may be, we think Burt's is one of the city's finest places to wet one's whistle, and so do you. Plus, the bartenders make an excellent Mai Tai. Anodyne Pool Hall & Cocktails

Best of Burque 2009 (Best Bar Staff): A diverse array of drinkers stops by for a cold one every night at the Anodyne. No matter what social clique you belong to or what your beverage of choice is, the staff at the Anodyne makes sure you get it fast. It only takes a few visits before the bartenders know what you want before you even ask for it.

Best of Burque 2009 (Best Bar in Which to Lay Low): This upstairs home-away-from-home noir bar is full of dark corners and pockets of mood lighting, perfect for remaining unseen. Slip in, drape your trench coat over the back of a barstool and ask the friendly, low-key bar staff for your usual.

Meals Served: LunchDinner
Cuisine: American, Fusion

3.5 rating (3 votes)
All of bRgR’s long menu of meats is entirely from New Mexico, even a robust wild boar burger with citrus sauce. The Euphoria is one of four “kobe” beef burgers on the menu, and it combines Korean bulgogi seasonings with kimchi and a slice of pineapple. The Nirvana features sautéed mushrooms and demi-glace. It’s not all meat, though. Vegetarians are well cared for, salads are served on a bed of grilled Romaine (try the lentil), there’s gourmet mac and cheese, and $2 sides like sweet potato tots are a favorite. To drink, there are 32 regional and local craft beers and well-priced wines. (Alibi Staff, September 1, 2011)

Happy Hour! $3 pints: 4:00pm - 7:00pm

5 rating (2 votes)
The bar seats about 20—it’s tiny and usually filled with regulars who are always happy to make room for one more. Four regular Chama River beers cover most of the bases for what you may want, and there are usually a couple of guest beers to round things out. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)

Knock back a Wildflower Wheat or One-Eleven Blonde on Marble's large, airy patio, where there’s live music every Saturday night with no cover charge. A small menu of panini sandwiches keeps hunger at bay, but you’re here for the beer—several varieties (always with a few seasonals) are brewed fresh in big vats right onsite. Or pick up a growler, six-pack or keg to take home. In the relatively short time it's been open, Marble's taken over the town, and you'll find a variety or two at the respectable bars in town. Il Vicino’s thin-crusted, gourmet-topped pizzas are perennial favorites among Alibi readers, but the big salads are equally popular. Order at the register and a server brings the food to your table, making weekday lunches speedy. The open kitchen gives you something to stare at while you wait. Stop in for a quick lunch or a late afternoon microbrew at one of the patio tables. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

3.98 rating (29 votes)
Trombino's Bistro Italiano has been an institution of family-style Italian dining in the Heights for almost 30 years. It houses an impressively fat menu that includes a full bar, espresso drinks and an ample wine list. The service is quicker than a Hollywood marriage, and the waitstaff seems particularly knowledgeable about the food and wines. Gravitate to the more rustic Italian fare—lemon-basil chicken salad, grilled homemade Italian sausage or meatballs, prosciutto-wrapped asparagus, and manicotti are amply portioned and tasty. This used to be the Blue Corn Café and Brewery, but it's been rechristened as Chama River Brewing Company. Either way, the place has a great beer selection, including a bevy of their own brews. The food is approachable American stuff that, coincidentally, goes pretty damn well with beer. And, according to the 2007 BoB Restaurants poll, it even has the Best Bread Basket around. Say yes to yeast. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

IVB Canteen picks up where the Vassar tap room left off. The canteen is spacious, and so is a shaded patio filled with picnic benches—a comfortable spot to enjoy the brew, regular live music and a casual menu. There’s no pizza here, but there are satisfying sandwiches, burgers and salads. As always, the ingredients are top-notch, the microbrews are award-winning, and the homebrewed root beer float is a real treat. (Alibi Staff, April 14, 2011)

Jeff Erway presents a variety of beer styles brewed right on the premises, one of which will almost certainly fill your specific craving. In addition to the cold taps, one or two of the beers are often available woody and cellar-temperature from the cask. As you sip, play a game of pool upstairs, scratch under your well-behaved pet’s collar and chat with the always-friendly fellow beer-lovers. (Alibi Staff, January 20, 2011)

The focus at Nexus is on balanced, drinkable beers that don’t smash customers in the mouth by a hop assault. That being said, Nexus beat out stalwart area breweries at the 2011 NM IPA Challenge. There are nine styles featured on tap, including standouts IPA, ESB, cream and Belgian white. The brewery is attracting quite a following, both for the beer and as a soul food gastropub. The menu offers specialties of Southern-fried po’boys and the delicious marriage of chicken and waffles. It’s just the place to take your soul-food-craving friends while still getting your craft beer fix. And there’s live music, too. Nexus has bands booked two to three nights a week. Besides the late-night menus and 20-odd house-brewed beers, Kelly's has an enormous, dog-friendly patio that somehow manages to be packed to the elbows, lively and laid-back all at the same time. The food is decidedly geared toward the bar crowd, with shades of cow, ostrich, turkey, buffalo or veggie on the burger menu. Get one with a side of sweet potato fries. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Tractor draws the crowd by serving beer that’s come a long way since Head Brewer Dave Hargis took over more than a year ago. Today’s Tractor offers up nine taps, with five constants (IPA, red, honey wheat, pale ale and stout) and four rotating taps. The dopplebock is excellent, and Tractor seems to excel at the bock styles (it took first place at the 2011 Santa Fe’s BockFest). Tractor plans to introduce live music in the near future, and you can get growlers filled here. There is no kitchen, but five Nob Hill restaurants offer delivery, and there are plenty within walking distance. (Alibi Staff, September 29, 2011)
