New Mexican food in the Garduño’s vein—plus burgers and booze—in a bucolic valley setting. In fact, El Bruno’s does indeed occupy the site (and, one might assume, the demographic) of the former North Valley Garduño’s. (Alibi Staff, April 10, 2013)

The Barley Room is a watering hole in the far Northeast Heights that fills patrons up with live music, lots of libations and a surprisingly ample menu. Snack on bar-friendly fried things (say yes to the sweet potato fries!), or have a proper meal with burgers, salads, pasta, New Mexican dishes and a few grilled meat and fish entrées. There’s a palpable sports bar feel to the place, but a diverse clientele keeps this bar/grill comfortable for just about everyone. The kitchen stays open until midnight every night; go ahead and linger. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

This used to be the Blue Corn Café and Brewery, but it's been rechristened as Chama River Brewing Company. Either way, the place has a great beer selection, including a bevy of their own brews. The food is approachable American stuff that, coincidentally, goes pretty damn well with beer. And, according to the 2007 BoB Restaurants poll, it even has the Best Bread Basket around. Say yes to yeast. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Something that sets Doc & Eddy’s apart from other sports bars is that no cover charge is extracted on Ultimate Fighting Championship nights. What you will find are pool tables, waitresses who are not dressed like strippers (TDs is across the parking lot if that’s what you’re after—it also airs UFC) and a kitchen staff that takes its job seriously. The Lobo burger is a thing of beauty, with smoked bacon sparring nicely with cheese and green chile. The fries are skin-on, and the legit red chile is medium spiced with the occasional fleck of coriander. Maybe everyone doesn’t know your name, but it’s pleasant and friendly—even to Brock Lesnar fans. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)

Il Vicino’s taproom has reopened with a vengeance at its new location. There is now plenty of room (both to sit and park), and you can chow on a sandwich or a big hot pretzel while you sip your Wet Mountain IPA. (Alibi Staff, April 14, 2011)

Jeff Erway presents a variety of beer styles brewed right on the premises, one of which will almost certainly fill your specific craving. In addition to the cold taps, one or two of the beers are often available woody and cellar-temperature from the cask. As you sip, play a game of pool upstairs, scratch under your well-behaved pet’s collar and chat with the always-friendly fellow beer-lovers. (Alibi Staff, January 20, 2011)

With sometimes too-loud live music and a party-hard crowd, it’s usually best to avoid this place on the weekends. But stop in for a late lunch or weeknight burger and a beer, and you’ll get a different experience. The beef here is grass-fed, New Mexico-grown, and steroid- and antibiotic-free, and the cooks at Monte Vista deserve praise for what they do with it. The freshly ground burgers are juicy and big, the steak frites hit the spot, and the beef skewers are tender and one of the best deals on cow in town. And if you do brave the weekend crowd, you’ll be rewarded by bowls of mussels served with your choice of several sauces, including coconut curry, Mexican and classic French. Served with a grilled baguette to soak up a small sea of broth, it’s a great way to fill a belly for $10. (Alibi Staff, December 23, 2010)

If you like your comfort food with a gourmet twist, it’s here. Nob Hill Bar and Grill boasts meatloaf (crowned with smoked bacon) and burgers (American kobe). Signature cocktails, a few vegetarian entrées, and a comfy but chic atmosphere make Nob Hill Bar and Grill a solid addition to the neighborhood. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

The surprising thing about Scalo is that it’s simultaneously more pleasant and less expensive than you’d think. It’s just as breezy and classy as ever in its high-ceilinged dining room, while the patio will have a nice, long season of pleasant weather. Now serving brunch on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and there’s plenty of fresh-pressed espresso to sip with it. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Tractor draws the crowd by serving beer that’s come a long way since head brewer Dave Hargis took over more than a year ago. Today’s Tractor offers up nine taps, with five constants (IPA, red, honey wheat, pale ale and stout) and four rotating taps. The doppelbock is excellent, and Tractor seems to excel at the bock styles (it took first place at the 2011 Santa Fe’s BockFest). Tractor plans to introduce live music in the near future. There is no kitchen, but Albuquerque’s best food trucks are almost always parked right outside. (Alibi Staff, September 29, 2011)

4.35 rating (35 votes)
Best Wine Bar winners in 2008’s Best of Burque poll, Zinc is a delightfully renovated historic space in Nob Hill, reborn as an upscale restaurant serving elegant American food with noticeable French inspiration. Thirsty? Don't miss the mocha, with “Zinc” written in chocolate syrup, or the wonderful selection of wines by the glass. Downstairs, the wine bar attracts a younger crowd for drinks and music.

O'Niell's Pub is back—and serves food until midnight on weekdays! A few years after being ousted from its nearly decade-long home in Nob Hill, O'Niell's Pub has migrated east up Central and reopened in a new (but reassuringly familiar) space. All the old standouts like fish and chips and the “Burger in Paradise” are still here and as good as they ever were. Tractor Brewing's O'Niell's Irish Red is a perfectly balanced beer drunk by itself or with everything from chicken wings to chocolate cake. They're comforting, a little cheeky and unapologetically Irish-American. Just like O'Niell's Pub. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

Paul’s is the kind of place normally associated with slabs of artery-clogging red meat, liver-corroding martinis and (until recently) the freedom to light up during dinner. With high-backed banquette seating and intimate mood lighting, it's the perfect date destination—especially if your suitor is paying. Open until 10 p.m. weeknights, 11 p.m. weekends. Seasons’ rooftop patio is one of our favorite wine-drinking destinations, especially when it’s nice out. There are heaters up there for chilly nights, the courtyard fountain provides a calming gurgle, the view of the mountains is great and the happy hour menu has outstanding dishes at more than reasonable prices.
