Barelas Coffee HouseThis is the place to get the Best Posole in town, according to our restaurant polls. You’d better get to Barelas early on Saturday morning if you don’t want to wait in line for a table. This homey New Mexican joint is popular, and though it’s much bigger inside than you can tell from the street, regulars pack the place tighter than a tamale. Barelas is known for huevos rancheros and they are tasty here, slathered in particularly good red chile and served on a fresh flour tortilla. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)
Best Green Chile in town, period [ Fri Oct 3 2008 12:14 PM ]
Best of Burque Restaurants 2008 comes out next week, but I'll just chime in now with The Truth.
Massive slabs of green chile pods in a savory broth. Great in a bowl (with beans) or over enchiladas. The menu clearly states, "Our chile is made with meat." So vegetarians will have to go have some not-as-good chile somewhere else. Christ knows where.
Patio seating is the way to go, but they close it up early in the season. It may already be shut down for this year, I dunno.
They also have really good pancakes for some reason.
The Very Best Chicharrones [ Sun Jan 17 2010 12:28 AM ]
I used to be able to indulge in chicharrones on a regular basis, but, alas at my cardiologist's insistence, has almost made me give them up. (sssshhhh) don't let him know that I still sneak down here and have a plate load, although I don't mind the inevitable wait in line, somethings just are worth waiting for!
