You have to love a place that makes its own hot dogs. Properly known as Vienna sausages, they're just one of more than 25 different kinds of sausages made at this 35-year-old neighborhood shop. Also popular are the andouille (used for gumbo) and white bratwurst (made with pork and veal), though you'll naturally be curious about Alpine's head cheese (not nearly as gross as it sounds) and blood and tongue sausage (ditto). Look for house-smoked hams and bacon, several kinds of Black Forest ham, roast beef, pastrami and European cheeses. If you have to wait in line, use your time to scan the shelves for gooseberry jam, German pickles, Norwegian breads and other Northern European delicacies. Don't forget to ask about the beef jerky and beef sticks. (Alibi Staff, August 11, 2010)

This is the unparalleled place (so I hear, from all the carnies in my life. I don't know -- I'm vegetarian. But they do have some cool and interesting non-carne-fied Euro-grub for your veggie pleasure.)

For german sausage lovers, this is definitely a place to make a pilgrimage to. They custom-make sausage sandwiches
It's too bad though, that once you get there, the place is tiny and cramped and there's no place to sit and enjoy your sandwich.

For german sausage lovers, this is definitely a place to make a pilgrimage to.
The most amazing sausage they have are the Landjaeger, which are delicious flat, dried and smoked beef sausages you'll normally find for sale in the Germanic parts of the Midwest and parts of central Texas. Buy some Landjaeger from the Alpine Sausage Kitchen, get some good cold beer, and get hooked on the smoky flavor.
