On What Principle Would You Turn Down $5 Billion?

So you’re the only surviving member of the Djok clan in Kakadu, Australia. You control a property called the Koongarra that’s sitting on 14,000 tons of uranium worth $5 billion. French energy giant Areva wants that uranium.

Do you give it up for an unbelievable fortune?

Or do you say, “I’m not interested in white people offering me this or that ... it doesn’t mean a thing”?

Jeffrey Lee just wants to hunt and fish.

Take the money. Buy controlling interest in Areva. Set up a perpetual trust- transfer ownership of the land and mineral rights to it. Run Areva into the ground. Bail out and go fishing.

  • many, many principles  [ Sat Jul 28 2007 12:48 AM ]

Torturing someone completely innocent, mass murder, raping children, etc. There are many , many principles to turn down 5 billion...

  • the cognitive state of mind and of money  [ Mon Jul 30 2007 2:13 AM ]

New Mexico has had its own cases of peoples selling out to corporate entities for the cold hard thought of being able to buy a new Hummer - what a Bummer, without giving one content to the future of the generations that follow, nor to the environment.

As I have outsourced myself to yahoo, here in South Africa, this sort of situation becomes more visible and tangible to the workers here, each and every day.

For example, yahoo has questioned my deletions of racist hate speech against Islam, Muslims, the Roma (gypsies in English).

So, do we sell ourselves for whatever we can?

On what principles would I turn down $5 billion? For the same reasons as Davros: in order not to keep the war machine running, and that includes NIKE, WarMart, Pizza Slut and others even as yahoo.
