  • Not too shabby...  [ Wed Oct 31 2007 11:48 PM ]

I did a Day of the Dead tattoo-flash style pumpkin this year.

    I'm a bit of an over-achiever.

While I was carving my masterpiece my 2-year-old stood on an overturned bucket, unlocked the front door and wandered off down the street. I found him in a parking lot down the street waiting patiently with a nice man who pulled over to stop him from crossing a busy street. Of course, my son had stripped down to his diaper before venturing out on his own.

My triumph over ghoulish gourds was seriously overshadowed by my moment of parental neglect.

    I win Mom-of-the-Year.

  • Carving with Jack  [ Thu Nov 1 2007 6:46 AM ]

Pumpkin carving has taken on an art form of its own. It is amazing that we can spend hours on these squash when the life of a carved masterpiece is only a few days. I am down with it though; it is something I am willing to put the effort in. I tried to do one this year, but I could not find the time – maybe the brilliant me should get my ass off the computer.

Maren, don’t worry about losing your son – I think it probably happens to everybody. I guess saying that probably does not make you feel better. I always wonder what is going on in a kids head when they do something like that.
