Hot Polling Action #46

Is Albuquerque law Enforcement out to ruin your fun?

NARKYMAN

This week, the handsome and effortlessly charming Simon McCormack wrote a story about Albuquerque's Safe City Strike Force shutting down a fetish performance. The head of the Strike Force says the venue where the show was scheduled to take place was zoned for residential activities. Since the venue was charging a cover at the door (something you can only do in commercially zoned areas) the Strike Force put the kibosh on it.

So, when you're out looking to enjoy yourself, do you think local law enforcement is out to rain on your parade? Log in to vote in this week’s poll (green box at left) and leave your comments below.

  • RIP my truck  [ Tue Feb 24 2009 3:17 PM ]

It seems like there's an awful lot of manpower and budget spent stewing about stupid shit like this, but when my truck was stolen all I got was a shrug. Seriously, think about the salaries being paid to these people to sit around and make veiled threats, day after day.

  • Knifing? We'll be right over!  [ Tue Feb 24 2009 3:26 PM ]

I got jumped by two junkies outside Lakaia House Apartments where I used to live a few years ago. One of them tried to take off my ear with a big-ass razor. I lost about 3 inches of my scalp, and the hair has never grown back properly. I kicked the all-holy shit out of the both of 'em, wrapped them up with a roll of duct tape (A thousand and one uses!), and called the cops. They told me they would be there in approximately 3 hours. I told the operator that I would be pleased to drag them into traffic and let them scrape up the pieces when they arrived later, which didn't seem to amuse her all that much.

45 minutes and about half a pack of Camels later, the cops finally showed up. One of them gave me a band-aid. He was nice enough, I suppose.

  • Yes  [ Tue Feb 24 2009 3:39 PM ]

What's it called, Safe City Strike Force? They're the ones who investigated the fetish event, right? How exactly are they keeping the city safe by shutting down a party over a zoning kerfuffle?

Albuquerque powers that be are entirely too concerned with matters of vice, and until they no longer are there will be no chance for culture to actually happen here.

  • When seconds count,  [ Tue Feb 24 2009 4:18 PM ]

the cops are only minutes away.

A Glock in the pocket is better than a cop on the phone.

Strike Farce? Who needs 'em? Wasted tax dollars that could be better spent on teachers.

Otherwise, who would buy Oakley sunglasses?

Be safe or get your face smashed, weirdo.

  • Serial Killer on the loose  [ Wed Feb 25 2009 2:07 PM ]

Who cares when theres partys to attend. Why patrol crime ridden areas when we can post up downtown and "frisk" 20 somethings? I don't understand why we give sadists guns and then act like they want to keep us safe. BS These are the people that need mental help but they just get a paycheck. P.S. all those dead bodies were most likely put there by a deranged cop!

  • I agree...  [ Thu Feb 26 2009 9:10 AM ]

...with nmsamanda. I'm sorry, I've only lived here for 2 years and have noticed how horrible these cops are. Yes, I've put myself in some really stupid situations, I've had a gun held to my head. I've walked alone at 2 in the morning on Coors because I didn't have another choice and bad things have happened. But, you think they would care more. They didn't ask any questions about the guys that pulled up next to me and threatened me with the gun. They didn't ask ANY questions about them, or the car they pulled up in. Before that happened, 2 cops had passed by me and didn't even give me a second look. I was sober by the way. I'm 20 and probably look like I'm 16. Those people just don't give a crap. I guess shit like that is normal in this city.

  • No Rain On My Parade  [ Sat Feb 28 2009 10:30 AM ]

Guess I'm having the right kind of fun and/or am smarter about when and where I am having it.
