Tea Parties on Tax Day

Play Youtube Video

On tax day, right-wing activists plan on showing America they can protest just as well as their progressive counterparts. The plan is to stage dozens of "Boston Tea Party" demonstrations throughout the country.

People are protesting America turning into France, the government making everyone buy socialist health care And taking away our guns somehow. Here's what the rallies might look like. This one took place in Washington D.C. in February.

People are trying to protest here. Also, the first time I learned about teabagging was when I watched Pecker. My mother and I sat in uncomfortable silence.

it's fantastic that conservatives are so excited about teabagging. Who knows. Maybe they'll even start having sex with the lights on.

This is an exciting time to be alive.

The stupidity of the whole tea protest thing just makes my brain hurt. The Boston Tea Party wasn't triggered by high taxes. In fact, the British government had just lowered taxes on imported tea as a means to combat smuggled tea. The taxes had been lowered to undercut the price sustainable by the smugglers, many of whom were local tea dealers, which, naturally, were the main instigators of the protest. Undercutting the prices aside, the primary justification was that it was against the British constitution to have a tax levied on a population without the consent of their elected representatives. Since the taxes on imported tea were levied in Great Britain, and done so by an act of Parliament, not the colonial councils, many thought, and rightfully so, that the taxes were unconstitutional under British law, so they were willing to join in with the outraged tea smugglers who were seeing their business undercut and protest the tea act. In other words, the protest wasn't about high taxes, it was about unconstitutional actions by the government, except when it was about keeping a lucrative black market in operation.

So, these dipshits are pretty much protesting taxes levied by their elected representatives by referencing a protest that was ostensibly about the right to be taxed by your elected representatives, and at least partially about a bunch of smugglers trying to maintain their lucrative black market trade. OK... that makes a lot of sense.

but you obviously missed the important thing, which is, of course, "tea-bagging" Glenn Beck.

  • I would like to go on record here and now as being 100% in favor or teabagging.  [ Sun Apr 12 2009 3:08 PM ]

That would of course include teabagging in all of its various forms whether those forms include the protest of taxes or any other form of teabagging including any form which may involve Rachel Maddow herself. On the other hand, the other one, Anna Marie Cox? Well, not so much.

If you're going to have massive nationwide simultaneous teabagging, you're going to need a Dick Armey.
