Downtown Action Team’s Promotional Video for Downtown Albuquerque

Play Youtube Video

The Downtown Action Team and Travel Guide New Mexico have teamed up to produce a video promoting downtown Albuquerque as a tourist destination. Nice job, DAT! It’s slick and professional. I only wonder at the decision to gloss over Downtown’s nightlife, mentioned only in passing, when it was responsible for the lion’s share of Downtown revitalization. At any rate, it’s a nice video and Brian Morris could have a future in television.

  • They also glossed over  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:11 PM ]

that it has one of the largest transient populations in the country that you have to fight off on your way to one of many (?) art galleries, boutiques and spas! That must be included in that "vibrant culture" part at the beginning.

  • The only good thing about downtown Albuquerque  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:12 PM ]

is Anodyne and the movie theater. Otherwise it sucks.

that DAT and Val Hollingsworth puts on is awesome. I don't know why it doesn't get a better crowd.

  • Downtown restaurants are awful  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:22 PM ]

Gold Street Cafe, Cecilias, Sushi King and Tucanos are all decent. All the others are crappy.

  • Live music?!  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:24 PM ]

The made a point of displaying the KiMo and the corporate movie theater as after hours activities, but made no mention of live music ... more proof that the city doesn't give a shit about Albuquerque music.

  • I like the Asian Noodle Bar-  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:26 PM ]

    Thai Tom Yum. Wicked good.

I have never tried anything else on the menu, so...

  • They misrepresent downtown's shopping opportunities, certainly.  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:27 PM ]

Where is there to shop again? Gizmo? Why would they want to trick people about that? It's not like tourists won't find out if they come.

  • That corporate movie theater  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:30 PM ]

is the only one in town (other than the Guild, of course) that shows awesome smaller-release indie films that aren't typically played around here. Hate it all you want, but it's the only reason (other than a decent show from time to time) I head downtown after hours.

fondue's right on the money with the movies and Anodyne.

  • 3 places to shop  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:31 PM ]

    skip maisels (for tourists)

    sumner & dene

    patrician design

    that's all i can think of ?

  • Thai Crystal is good  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 12:33 PM ]

    Just kind of hidden

  • If east dowtown is Edo, is west downtown Wedo?  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 2:14 PM ]

Re: shopping. It's a long-ass walk to either of these, but Mecca is the best record store in town and Duran Central Pharmacy is a nice gifty drug store for poking around in. Oh yeah, Downtown Books on 8th Street is a nice little boutique bookstore.

  • There used to be some shopping in Downtown proper  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 2:18 PM ]

Glowing, Seventh Goddess, Ruby Shoesday, Ooh Aah...all gone to other places.

  • There is shopping downtown  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 2:53 PM ]

Let our EIC show you. She often gives me recommendations when I'm scrambling to buy presents somewhere close to the Alibi offices at the last possible second.

  • What restaurants, shopping centers, or art galleries?  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 4:22 PM ]

All I see are empty buildings. Mostly newly built condominiums that no one's ever going to move into cause there's nothing down here.

  • Sound bed  [ Mon Mar 22 2010 7:17 PM ]

This video would be a pretty good lie, but the super generic music bed gives it away.
