Stuff in My Desk

I’m surprised there’s not more lady stuff in here.

To the left, we have a bottle of Move Free Advanced, which is glucosimine for my joints. This, along with the the bottle of vitamin C, was given to me by my mother. Thanks, ma! A wee (and much used) jar o’ ibuprofen, some smelly glittery lotion my students gave to me as part of a wedding gift two years ago, dried cranberries, a Luna bar (for my lady parts) and assorted things I find on the floor and put in my desk.

Two different kinds of lotion, bobby pins, Pepto Bismol tablets, Dayquil softgels, matches, a cigar, loose change, crackers, chocolate, red pens, business cards, notes on articles from 2002, SRA's journalism awards from two years ago, Henningsen's pay stub, my student loan forbearance request from last year.

A Cabela's leatherman,
3 kinds of floss,
a remote control fart noisemaker,
4 kinds of hand lotion,
a fortune that says "you are a great man",
alka seltzer (score! didn't know that was there!)
Bean Boozled Jelly Bellys (is it vomit flavored or is it peach?)
a bit of honey as hard as stone
lots of bar napkins with notes on them

There isn't much actually on my desk. This is my way of fooling myself out of stress. I put my stacks of paperwork behind me on my credenza so I don't have to stare at them all day and think, oh my god, I will never get through all of this in a million lifetimes, shoot me now.
Like my house. It looks straightened, until you open my closets or peek in my basement.

I have 8 years of life in my top desk drawer. I have the usual normal itemes like pens, post-it notpads, staples... The things that make you go "hmmmmm" consist of glitter, a rather large knife you could possibly kill a large animal with (it folds), some loose pills that I have no idea what they are for, and a small pink hammer.
I guess I could get rid of a few things but just when I do, a tiger might run in my office and attack me. I'll be glad I had the knife!

Cholula, wasabi, garlic salt, midol, tampons, toothpicks, a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, a comb, deodorant, a change of clothes, sneakers, a corkscrew, tea (i like to think i drink tea), a broken guitar tuner, a passport application.
What I'm saying is that I live at the Alibi.
All the important stuff is in piles on the desk, in a giant bag I carry around, in piles on the floor and shelves or under the desk.
