Exciting New Retailer

What exciting new retailer do you predict for Coronado Mall?
What exciting new retailer do you predict for Coronado Mall?

Two weeks ago Summer and I went to the mall to shop for dresses. While viewing the map pictured at right, and realizing there is no Dillard’s at Coronado Mall, I noticed that a couple of the mall’s department stores are vacant. The empty spaces are filled with a vague tease that reads “Exciting New Retailer Coming Soon.” What exciting new retailer do you think it will be? How I wish Albuquerque had a Nordstrom, but if I got to pick any store I would choose Ikea.

  • What's Nordstrom  [ Tue Mar 30 2010 5:31 PM ]

Sears. I hope they turn it into Sears. Is one Sears really enough?.. Fuck No it's not.

Just the sort of unremarkable practicality the City of Albuquerque can stand, and in double quantities - even better. Sears.

  • Sears!!!!  [ Tue Mar 30 2010 7:26 PM ]

did you know Sears is the same as Kmart??? Just like Target and Mervyns :)

    Crate and Barrel. Mmmmmm.

  • Tiffany? Cartier? OK, how 'bout Chopard . . .  [ Tue Mar 30 2010 9:00 PM ]

    Could be "Forever 21" ???

  • Knowing the typical Coronado Mall fare...  [ Tue Mar 30 2010 10:22 PM ]

It'll probably be something by the name of "505 Fashi0nz," featuring clothing emblazoned with La Virgen de Guadalupe brandishing a Glock in front of a setting Zia symbol.

  • 505 Fashenz  [ Tue Mar 30 2010 10:30 PM ]

What about a store that sells matching clothes for 16 yr old girls and their babies? cuz thats whoz at that mall. Those girls love pretzels.

  • Ikea addiction  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 1:17 AM ]

I shop at Ikea almost weekly (my apartment looks great). The cashiers have started to recognize us. I feel sorry for people who don't have an Ikea and wonder how I lived before. My favorite part is singing the Swedish Chef song on the way there.

    Börk, Börk, Börk!

  • What's it say about ABQ demographics  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 6:53 AM ]

. . . or at least Coronado Mall demographics?

Alibi readers may want and wish for whatever they want, but the Business Journal broke the story already.

'Fraid it's a "Forever 21." (Exciting? New? All in the eyes of the beholder, I guess.) I note that the comments here are largely from people who are apparently not living at home with mom and dad and spending their money on clothes to impress the other high school kids.

Now, me, I'm as hip and trendy a dresser as any Alibi reader can be (think Argyle-plaid Herculon and Naugahyde. (No, really.)) But "F'n-21" is a tad on the young-ish side for me.

Here be the link to the BusJnl story:

Whenever I get suckered into walking in there at the hands of my significant other, I am amazed at how ridiculously cheap everything is and how an entirely new outfit can be had for <$20. Us men could only be so lucky. It goes back to simple supply and demand, I suppose.

  • Exciting New Retailers!  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 8:40 AM ]

There were actually several "Exciting New Retailer" spaces indicated. I hope they're all turning into Forever 21!!!!!

  • Now, how about that WinRock Center . . . ?  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 9:06 AM ]

The Business Journal article makes out like they are. Even had some other stores move to make room. The Mervyn's (?) spot wasn't big enough, apparently.

I was just at the Forever 21 in Corpus Christi and they now have men's clothes for the same great savings that the ladies get! It was very exciting to see such hip cool new fashions at a reasonably deep discount!

  • Seriously?  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 12:47 PM ]

Wow ... so what you're telling me is that we might see that in Albuquerque in 10 years? :) Then again, I didn't think Corpus Christi was at the forefront of the latest fashions, but I may be wrong. In any case, that's pretty sweet, I'll check them out when I embark on my road trip this summer to more civilized lands and see if they're following suit.

  • yeah  [ Wed Mar 31 2010 1:04 PM ]

Corpus Christi is actually further behind in cool things than ABQ! So I think we will absolutely be seeing a men's section in the new Forever 21... or as they like to refer to themselves "Forever XXI"
