The New Mexico Independent, as we know it, is closed.

The New Mexico Independent is closing down its larger operation, according to statements on Twitter from NMI editor Gwyneth Doland. She writes:

“The New Mexico Independent as you know it is now closed. The site will remain live, possibly with a half-time blogger. Deepest apologies.

Thank you @fbihop, @m_ruth, @BryantFurlow, @Trip_44 for 2 1/2 years of the best, most innovative reporting I could have imagined.

And thank you, loyal readers, for all of your loyalty, support, encouragement, tips and readership. We couldn't have done it without you!”

The New Mexico Independent is part of the American Independent News Network, a privately funded non-profit corporation providing online news coverage. The Washington Independent is also signing off today, giving the recession as reason.

Once again
Your heart is broken. You've got a dear friend whom will never live again. There was a murder. Were there orphans or what-not? Is it deeper than reported; is there black ink and paper left neglected, never to reach maturity? Somehow, the Bush years have screwed another publication.
Please be assured, dearest rriverstone, that there are other news sources around here that you can lean on for support, and if you would start using the full potential of your computer, (I know you have one), you will find them. Happy Hunting - vegetarian style.

If it weren't for aggravated hyperbole, these two would never get quoted by The Daily Show and nobody would know they still exist.

Beg to differ.
Folks who breathe do, and Alibi readers especially. They breathe more than others due to their enormous cranial organ requiring oxygen. So I'm told.
Curious, speaking with limited notes for an hour or more in public is a mark of intelligence, whatnot.
