The Santa Fe University of Art & Design (SFUAD) Contemporary Music Department will present contributing faculty member Gerry Carthy in concert on St. Patrick’s Day on the SFUAD campus. Carthy is also one of the founding members of the traditional Irish session at the Crane Bar, which recently celebrated its 25th anniversarythe longest running session in Galway. Tickets to the event are free for SFUAD staff and students and $10 for the general public. By Gregory Pleshaw [ Tue Feb 12 2013 3:00 PM ]

The Harwood Arts Center, located at the corner of 7th and Mountain, is one of the city's premier venues for showcasing contemporary art by both emerging and established artists.  Each year, the Harwood offers opportunities for artists to develop and share work with each other and the community at large, and the Center offers a broad range of events and education programming to foster its ongoing mission. The Harwood Center recently announced that it is now accepting applications for a number of different opportunities for artists and the merely art-interested. Among these are proposals for exhibitions in the Harwood Galleries between now and throughout 2014 (due March 15) as well as applications for an Emerging Artist Program in June 2013 (also due March). In the summer of 2013, the Harwood will again be hosting Art Camp for children and teens. Also for teen artists, a spring Teen Art Mentorship Program begins tomorrow. The Center also is hosting a teen art project which offers paid apprenticeships for teens at the Mayor's Art Institute. Applications are due March 22nd. Visit the Harwood's website at harwoodartcenter.org for more information on all education programming. The Clocks Ticks on a Diné Funeral

Local artist raises funds to help family of recently deceased young man

By Gregory Pleshaw [ Thu Feb 7 2013 3:16 PM ]

Last Saturday, Kyle Shane Taliman was found dead in Gallup, NM. The 23-year-old Diné was found outdoors and is believed to have died of exposure. Talimam is survived by mother Lauri and his sister Cheyenne Tilman, both of Virginia. Gallup is a long way to fly from Virginia on short notice, but the news of this young man’s death traveled quickly and soon artist Monty Singer stepped up to help. Singer, an award-winning artist who has shown in Indian Market and the Heard Show and whose work can be found in museums and private collections, offered to donate one of his paintings to be raffled off to help the Talimans go to Gallup to bury their family member.
