Two Vans. TWO. For the entire downtown city district. I used this service and had to wait over a half an hour for them to show up. If that's the best that the DEPT OF TRANSPORTATION can muster I'd suggest one hell of a bake sale because it was pathetic. More than that, the drivers were completely complacent. I had to sit through a trip while an entire van pleaded with the driver to pull over because one of the passengers had to vomit. She went ahead while he was TALKING ON A CELL PHONE. I wish I was kidding. Disregarding even minimal responsibillity for the passengers your carrying and subjecting them to sitting in vomit is completely unexcusable. I filed a complaint but I doubt if any of them will be disiplined. Or if it will even be looked at. Seriously DOT? Is that all you got? Why do you even bother doing something if you're not going to do it right?
Yup. No surprise. Centrist/moderate whatever........pointed towards the liberal fence. You know, firery to the point of striking up the cause but not in too deep to blindly run off a cliff. :D A little column A, B.....AB positive.....column everything?
You don't need atmosphere in a deli. The best sandwiches taste that way because you're using paper napkins. What's this guy looking for? It's about time there was some simple east coast potentcy in this city. I'm getting tired of wandering up and down this po' cali/santa softness. *Check for the chairs and tables in the place, next time you need to write something. Not very thorough.

I'm glad the bus has worked, but getting used to riding a bus also means that you're going to have change the way you approach traveling. Twenty minute wait isn't that big a deal. A car is always going to be the fastest way to get somewhere. It's no comparison. The bottom line is are you going to live a tiny bit slower or pay through the nose to get somewhere ten minutes faster? Give yourself time. It's a concept that people trying the bus for the first time in this area sort of get turned off from, driving cars all their lives. A transit system is complex and things can affect it. Accident detours, passenger influx, mechanical failure, Driver issues, events on central (on that route) or a mix of all of the above until it affects schedule. Some things to consider with the expansion of bus lines: 1. The majority of the buses in the city are 7 to 18(!) years old. Only recently did they buy new buses to replace the oldest ones (which don't comply with disability federal law). 2. The after dark rapid ride rotations were/are on a half hour rotation, not the fifteen you're used to on the weekdays (Identical to sunday schedule though). 3. I just don't think the city are going to put out buses that people aren't going to ride for a while with the quota in the police dept. still unfilled. Other routes in the city still have rotations that are on the hour(!) although they're pretty much 25-30 mins on average around the city. 4. The new buses cost about 560k a piece. 5.8 million would be a drop in the bucket. Even if you could use the existing fleet, with the number of drivers (and infrastructure staff) the city has you wouldn't be able to pay for/staff it until they increased funding or found a new way to pay for it. 5. We're going to have a new mayor soon. It's debate worthy but transit priority may change for the better or maybe worse. 6. Transit also has a paratransit dept. to supply and staff in order to provide access to the buses for the elderly and disabled. Which is going to come first? Putting out empty buses for people to eventually get used to riding or adding buses to existing places when the demand increases? I think the city will take the latter everytime with it's priority in other departments. It IS growing, there are new routes and increased frequency in some places. For now, there's only so much to go around. The drivers are paid lower than others in cities of comparable size/service and lowest in the state overall for a specialized position. In general they can work six days a week and be drafted on their days off to fill holes. The system is just strained and future expansion is going to be at a certain pace. |
