Simms City

Two years before she died, Ruth Hanna McCormick Simms got together with a group of Albuquerque music patrons and formed a chamber music event. That was in 1942. Seventy years later, the June Music Festival is a staple in the Duke City's classical and chamber music scenes, drawing performers from around the world. Tonight kicks off the festival's 71st incarnation with The Fine Arts Quartet performing pieces by Mozart, Schumann and Efrem Zimbalist Sr. The group also plays Sunday, highlighting the work of Beethoven, Haydn and Dohnányi. The festival wraps up the following weekend with a performance of Astor Piazzolla's tango movements by The Philippe Quint Quintet. It all takes place at the Simms Center for the Performing Arts (6400 Wyoming NE), with tonight’s performance at 7:30 p.m.
