Welcome to Ghostlynd: The Musical Adventure of Mimi and the Ghosts opens
Looking for some spectral fun for the kids this month? Don’t wait until Día de los Muertos to get your ghostly fix. The Cardboard Playhouse brings on the poltergeists with The Musical Adventure of Mimi and the Ghosts (VSA North 4th Theater, 4904 Fourth Street NW). With music by local composer Casey Mraz, this musical for young audiences is the brainchild of Jason Witter, who founded the comedy troupe Eat, Drink and Be Larry and brought us the hilarious B-movie Hamlet the Vampire Slayer.
After young Mimi, played by Claire Carter, is orphaned, her aunt takes her in. But when they have a terrible spat over her mother’s music box, two wily ghosts whisk them away to Ghostlynd. To get back to the land of the living they have to make up and be friends again. It’s a real kiddo fest as 26 actors between the ages of 8 and 18 take the stage. The show runs Oct. 10 through 19, Fridays and Saturdays, 7pm; Sundays, 2pm ($10). The opening-night performance and reception tonight (Thursday, Oct. 9) at 6:30pm ($15), has proceeds going to NM Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more info: cardboard-
