Chamber of Hearts
For art music lovers, the place to be on Sunday, April 19, is Keller Hall (203 Cornell SE). Home to a formidable Holtkamp pipe organ, the storied venue hosts a full day of chamber music as part of its spring performance calendar. Here’s what’s on offer: Stephanie Opsal, a graduate student of clarinet who recently and honorably competed in the International Clarinet Association Young Artist Competition, performs at noon. Trumpeter Alex Austell, an all-state player from Los Alamos, N.M., has a senior recital featuring brass literature at 2pm.
Dr. Kristin Ditlow is part of the UNM music faculty and a graduate of the Eastman School of Music. Her body of work has encompassed performances with the Opera Company of Philadelphia and at Tanglewood and Carnegie Hall. She is an accomplished vocal coach and expert on operatic language in addition to her faculty piano-playing duties. Ditlow's piano recital begins at 5pm. The student recitals are free, and the faculty recital will run you between $5 and $12. This afternoon promises to be transcendent, and it showcases some of our town’s most enriching players. Where required, tickets are available via UNM Box Office. Keller Hall, UNM • Sun Apr 19 • Noon • $5-$12 for faculty recital; FREE otherwise • ALL-AGES! • View on Alibi calendar
