Words & Brews

Now that some of you are kicking back and enjoying summer break (except for a few unfortunate souls who enrolled in summer courses. Ew, why?!), you're able to perfect your extracurricular hobbies like learning the banjo, fly fishing and stewing over your poetry. Luckily for you, Emily Dickinson, there's a place that encourages you to share your poetry with the world, with the liquid courage Tractor Brewery can assist you with. Why not ride your bike over to their Wells Park location, sip on a Burqueño beer and nervously wait for the emcee to call your name. Open mics are great because they lack the formality of a personal gig, and with hosts like local poets Damien Flores and Joe Romero, you're in good company. And if you're not quite ready to bare your soul with a crowd of mostly listening pub patrons, you can always dip your toes in and test the waters tomorrow night at 7pm at Tractor Brewery Wells Park (1800 Fourth Street NW). It's free to kick it with these poets, but show up a bit early if you plan on performing, and be sure to order a damn beer and tip the waiter well. Cheers!
