Let's Be Alive
5th Annual Frida Fiesta
“I want to be inside your darkest everything.” Frida Kahlo reaches into your ribcage and pulls at everything that's ever meant a goddamn thing to you in your life. The impossibly complicated, beautiful and obscenely talented Mexican painter created a world in her artwork that has moved women to become more fiercely themselves, less afraid of their darkest truths and shockingly genuine. She has inspired the world decade after decade and continues to mesmerize our hearts and brains with her seemingly never-ending surprise lives. If she were alive today, she would have celebrated her 108th birthday on July 6.
As an artist that delved into the darkness and sensuality of self, her strikingly raw vulnerability armed her from the pain she so often felt, both physically and emotionally. In spite of her sometimes sorrowful appreciation for life, she simultaneously reminds us, gently and forcefully, how beautiful and strange it is to be alive.
Join fellow admirers as they pay their respects and celebrate her life at W!ld Moon Boutique's 5th annual Frida Fiesta in Old Town Albuquerque this Saturday, July 25, from 5 to 8pm. The fiesta begins at W!ld Moon Boutique (206 1/2 San Felipe NW). There, Frida's army of love will begin their descent toward the plaza, marching in their most inspired Frida garments. There will be a birthday cake, music, a look-a-like contest and general liveliness and love. The event is free, and all are welcome to participate. For more information visit wildmoonboutique.com.
