Street art stroll

I think that’s Rachel Bilson of “O.C.” fame, no?

To celebrate the Albuquerque sky no longer looking like a scene from Twilight, I decided to go for a walk today. Along my route Downtown, I saw some great examples of industrial decor. Here are a few:

“Al is undesired”: That’s poetry, but I can’t help feeling sorry for Al.

A styrofoam cup lodged itself on a cactus outside Gertrude Zachary’s castle. It was inexplicably beautiful, like that plastic bag in American Beauty . ... Or something.

Dragon Artist Flies Again

Thanks, person whose signature I can’t make out

It was back at the end of June that a mystery artist created a 50+ foot NeverEnding Story-esque beast on the plastic wrap that masks the Anasazi building’s lower parts. It was beautiful, but I pass the intersection everyday. The piece stayed up so long that I got used to it. I don’t really know when it got washed away, but only looked up one afternoon and it was gone.

Amazing New Graffiti at Sixth and Central

Possible portrait of Falkor the Luck Dragon

The head
The head

The penny-farthing picture, bearing the phrase “park your car,” that was beautifying the SE corner of Sixth and Central, is gone. This is sad because I loved it so. It was a cheerful, lovely image blip on an otherwise blighted eyesore. It was painted on the tan (read “worst color ever”) plasticy wrap which currently encircles the Anasazi building, presumably to keep it from falling completely apart while someone does something to it.

Trashtastic—With Update!

Huge, stinky piles of garbage in alleys today

Between Fourth and Fifth
Between Fourth and Fifth

WTF Albuquerque?

Walking to work today, I noticed a pile of trash outside of its dumpster. Then another, and another. Most of the errant piles o’ crap were in the alley that runs East/West between Central and Gold. But the mother load, the oops-the-garbage-truck-malfunctioned-and-dumped-contents-everywhere cake-taker, is behind our office, in the alley I like to affectionately refer to as Kimo Way.

Downtown Action Team’s Promotional Video for Downtown Albuquerque

The Downtown Action Team and Travel Guide New Mexico have teamed up to produce a video promoting downtown Albuquerque as a tourist destination. Nice job, DAT! It’s slick and professional. I only wonder at the decision to gloss over Downtown’s nightlife, mentioned only in passing, when it was responsible for the lion’s share of Downtown revitalization. At any rate, it’s a nice video and Brian Morris could have a future in television.
