Orkestrating a Light in Your Heart
Saturday, Dec 5: Kindling the Light: The Rebbe's Orkestra
The Ronald Gardenswartz Jewish Community Center of Greater Albuquerque will present a Hanukkah concert for all on Saturday, Dec. 5. "Kindling the Light" celebrates Judaic music from varied cultural and historic traditions and features The Rebbe's Orkestra, an ensemble of folk and classical musicians with long-time ties to the local music community. The 6-piece nationally recognized Klezmer ensemble—Beth Cohen, Randy Edmunds, Barbara Friedman, Debo Orlofsky, Mary Masuk and Clara Byom—will play and sing a variety of ballads, folk songs, theater and liturgical pieces in Hebrew, Ladino, Yiddish, English, Hungarian, Greek and Arabic.
Orkestra founder Beth Cohen told the Alibi, "We are very excited about it and 'Kindling the Light' is an ongoing, multicultural, musical Hanukkah project we have been working on and developing over the years. It is also somewhat of a research project that gets richer and richer as we delve deeper into it." Admission prices range from $10 for students (with ID), $15 for JCC members, $18 in advance for the general public and $22 at the door.
