"The house on Mango Street is not the way they told it at all. It's small and red with tight steps in front and windows so small you'd think they were holding their breath." If you've ever had the joy of reading Sandra Cisneros' poetic novel The House on Mango Street, you already know the powerful and significant role that neighborhoods play in sculpting identity. If not, seize the opportunity to explore culturally diverse and exquisitely artistic areas in our own city on Saturday, June 18. Executive Director of Working Classroom Gabrielle Uballez will lead a walking tour of historic Barelas neighborhood murals and discuss how environments help shape your sense of identity. The tour will start at 11am at the National Hispanic Cultural Center and is free to the public. National Hispanic Cultural Center • Sat Jun 18 • 11am-2pm • FREE • View on Alibi calendar
