Monday, Feb 27: International Polar Bear Day

via morguefile.com

Did you know that polar bears are one of the largest and most dangerous bears in the world? I've also heard that when a polar bear covers its nose in the Arctic Circle (its natural home), it disappears. That's true! As strange as it might seem, we've actually got two polar bears right here in Albuquerque: Brothers Koluk and Kiska live at ABQ BioPark Zoo. I bet they never expected to end up in the desert with all that fur, but life has a funny way about it. This Monday is International Polar Bear Day, and to celebrate, you can take the whole family down to see these powerful creatures in the flesh and learn all about them. Zookeepers will give talks peppered between feedings from 10am-2pm, Feb. 27. The event is free with admission to the BioPark zoo, which costs $4 for children 3-12, $6 for seniors and $13 for adults.
