I'm guessing this jerk is gonna get a few phone calls, esp. since it's published in the Alibi! Somebody, take this ignoramus to Temple!

  • I got anglo-saxoned once or twice  [ Fri Nov 26 2010 8:09 PM ]

I'm always confused. Why do we feel strong, genuine feelings for our Jewish neighbors and friends while we know that missiles are constantly fired into their neighborhoods by an enemy, while N Korea fires missiles into S Korea and talk radio wants to annihilate the N with nuclear weapons. What is there to destroy? A nation without electricity?

Why is it the United STATES of America's problem? If S Korea gets bombed, let them deal with it. Granted, I'm an isolationist, but I run into people always telling me how we should rule the planet. I don't feel that we have the moral obligation to rule anyone. I don't want the responsibility either, myself speaking. Obama's in charge of course.

    Regards

    Mike

  • Excuse Me  [ Mon Nov 29 2010 12:37 PM ]

But what the fuck does all of that have to do with a locally-based antisemitism on Craigslist?

  • This isn't a statement of Anti-Semitism  [ Mon Nov 29 2010 1:17 PM ]

more than it's just an antiquated, non-PC phrase that probably shouldn't be uttered in a public forum. If he refused to sell his car to all people of the Jewish faith, I might agree with you. Ill-advised? Absolutely. Anti-Semitic? Hardly.

  • I have a bridge in Brooklyn that I'd love to sell you  [ Mon Nov 29 2010 4:11 PM ]

To "jew" someone -- manipulating a person into giving you something for less than it's worth because you're too cheap to pay a fair price -- that doesn't strike you as a pejorative word that's derived from anti-jewish sentiment? As feeding into a stereotype that maintains an entire group of people is deceitful and opportunistic, and therefore not to be trusted?

And you don't see how that could be discriminatory or harmful to jews?

Buy that bridge and I'll throw in some history books for free.

  • Well its true, isn't it?!  [ Wed Dec 1 2010 9:01 AM ]

If the stereotype fits, is it a stereotype?

  • I Call Trolling!  [ Wed Dec 1 2010 11:40 AM ]

Homer, Homer, Homer! Your comment betrays such a level of ignorance that I'm forced to concede you are either incapable of reason or you are trolling. Do you know what the word "anecdote" means? If not, go to Dictionary.com and look it up. I bring this up because that's the only possible defense you could have for saying there's any truth to a stereotype--your own anecdotes or those that have been shared with you by friends and family. These are logically inadmissible, because there is no way that the sampling of Jewish people with whom you have interacted represents the total population. Furthermore, your perception on the occasions you have interacted with such people is subjective (go look up "subjective" if you don't know that word either).

The truth is that greedy people come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and ethnic backgrounds. Greed is not to be considered the defining characteristic of any culture.

  • Christians always rip me off and cheat me  [ Thu Dec 2 2010 7:02 PM ]

I've never been cheated, robbed, conned, exploited by a Jew. In fact, the anti-Semetic crap about miserly Jews comes from....drum roll, please...the Roman Catholic church, who wanted sole monopoly of money lending so badly, they threatened excommunication to anybody who competed with their operations. Of course, Jews weren't exactly shaking in their boots over excommunication from a Roman Catholic heaven, which would probably be even MORE annoying than a Roman Catholic Europe, so they went into the small loans business, CHARGING LESS INTEREST, with easier terms, and far less violence or social ostracism than the "fathers" did! Jews invented micro-loans. So, Jews were actually LESS miserly than xians, which TOTALLY pizzed of the RC daddies, and they started this smear campaign: accuse your "competition" of what it is YOU are actually doing. Kinda like the US term, "Indian giver," which will perplex me 'til the day I die....
