The blackout the coalition is considering isn't an "anti-piracy" statement. You've almost got it backwards; it's more of an anti-censorship statement (though even that understates it). There's a bill in the House called SOPA which is ostensibly intended for fighting piracy, which would grant IP holders radical new powers which would not be limited to dealing with infringing material. The effect will be tons of collateral damage, like what happened with DMCA. It's that lack of limitation and focus which has pretty much everyone on the internet feeling so threatened.

Not enough people are complaining to their reps about it, yet everyone (especially internet-related companies) is going to suffer from it if enacted, so almost all big players on the internet are trying to recruit the public into helping to lobby against it.

I clearly misinterpreted (or perhaps even skipped over) the article's main point. Thanks for the clarification, sloppy.

He could have just given her a good slap, called her whore and sent her back into the kitchen to make him a sandwich.

    Ah, simpler times.
