The Daily Word 02.04.10: Brakes, Booze, Bill O'Reilly

The Daily Word

Computer in 2010 Prius has made the braking part of driving harder.

California Senator Duncan Hunter talked to NPR about why "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" should not be repealed. Good news: he sounds like a box of stupid.

NM Legislature: Proposed Senate Bill 132 would create an Hispanic Education Act targeted at closing the achievement gap between Anglo and Hispanic students. Is it necessary?

This is a dumb article that says people under 30 don't get Meryl Streep. Is this a real thing?

For Scots, who consume the most alcohol per person in the world, a caffeine-and-booze concoction is stirring up some trouble. Ah, my people.

Belen closed its schools yesterday because it was raining. Ah, my people.

This year, the New Orleans Saints are America's Team. Suck it, Cowboys.

The Great American Apparel Diet: A group of women agree not to buy any new clothes for a year.

This sculpture sold for $104.3 million, the most ever paid for a work of art. Which totally sounds reasonable.

Jon Stewart goes on Bill O'Reilly's show and is predictably awesome.

  • So, he's calling them wimps?  [ Thu Feb 4 2010 9:23 AM ]

it would frankly make everybody a little bit uneasy to be in these close situations

If we allow situations to happen where soldiers might feel uneasy, then the next thing you know, we'll be putting them in situations where they get shot at. It's a slippery slope!! Please, politicians, the last thing we want is for potential recruits to get the impression that going to Afghanistan might not be as fun as the brochures say it is.

  • Uncomfortable soldiers  [ Thu Feb 4 2010 10:33 AM ]

Duncan acknowledges that there are already gay people serving, but since the soldiers around them don't know about it, it's OK and they don't feel icky. They initially tried the same thing when they finally racially integrated the Army in 1947, but the "Don't tell anyone you're black" policy didn't work as planned.

  • Meryl Streep disliked by bitchy under-30 moviegoer  [ Thu Feb 4 2010 12:18 PM ]

That was the dumbest article ever. Expert-on-his-generation writer cites SNL and The Onion making fun of Meryl Streep as the sole proof of his claim. It's OK to hate on Meryl Streep, but don't bring an entire demographic in on it until you've got some better research data.
