It might cost $100 million to clean up that maybe 8 million gallon jet fuel leak at Kirtland.

Speaking of spills, they may have stopped the Gulf geyser for now.

Meet the woman in charge of the federal department that inspects offshore oil rigs. Or don't meet her. She wouldn't comment.

The Gulf spill is officially the worst in U.S. history.

  • The Gulf "incident" per Bingaman  [ Thu May 27 2010 8:56 PM ]

This is a direct quote from Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin of Illinois who toured the disaster area on Monday: "BP , in my mind, no longer stands for British Petroleum. It stands for beyond patience. People have been waiting 34 days for BP to cap this well "... "excuses don't count anymore. You caused this mess, now stop the damage and clean up the mess". Our President also shouted at BP to "plug the hole, now!" on Tuesday, in a rare show of feigned anger. YouTube James Carville for his response, because he and Durbin are the only sane responders to this environmental catastrophe.

Now enter our Senator Bingaman who also spoke Monday after touring with Interior Secretary Salazar and Durbin, in a more measured tone: "... everything that people have thought of to suggest be done.... is being done." "Overall I think this has been an aggressive response to a terrible incident."

Does the term "incident" cause some uneasiness in others, like it does to me? An incident to me is a belligerent scuffle in a bar, not the worst environmental catastrophe caused by Mankind in history.

Maybe the $14000. he received from BP in campaign contributions, as the Chairman of the Senate Energy and Resources Committee has left some warm and fuzzy memories for the BP company, regardless of the dramatic differences that other Democrats have viewed this catastrophe, ... er... incident.

    Regards

    Mike

  • Hey, BTW  [ Thu May 27 2010 9:04 PM ]

There was a "cream piece" letter to the editor touting Senator Bingaman's response to the Gulf catastrophe, that has mysteriously disappeared since the Albuquerque Journal headline came out. I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but I'll sheepishly ask, is it related?

    Regards

    Mike

  • disappeared?  [ Fri May 28 2010 10:07 AM ]

..letter to the editor touting Senator Bingaman's response to the Gulf catastrophe, that has mysteriously disappeared..

Is this the one that "mysteriously disappeared?"

Maybe the $14000. he received from BP in campaign contributions

All he needs is a call from a law firm, electric utility, health professional, retired person, or investment bank and BP will be on the outs. I suggest a prank call: "Hello Senator, this is Pattriot. I'm the legal council for the Society of Geriatric Physicians, and we've just released a study which concludes that spilling oil in the sea, has a worse impact on the stock market than spilling coal on the side of the train tracks on the way to the San Juan power plant..." While he's distracted by trying to figure out just what it is that you want, he'll forget about BP's needs. Go for it, dude. You can make a difference!

  • Polluter, political prevaricators.  [ Sat May 29 2010 8:53 PM ]

I don't understand the irony of your post. I'm a simple man, dude. Our Senator is the Chairman of the Energy and Resources Committee and he accepted money from an industry multi-national company he is regulating, dude. That is tantamount to BP offering a bribe before the stuff hits the fan, dude. The Obama appointee to the Mineral Management Agency was sacrificed two days ago in the midst of the flack because her agency has received heavy criticism for the cozy relationship with the polluters she was supposed to regulate, dude. But it's a little different story with Jeff the Polluter, polluter of political soundbytes anyway.

Our Senator falls into the same safe-zone that Senators Barney Frank and Chris Dodd did with the collapse of the sub-prime housing market, Fannie May and Freddie Mac, that they were supposed to regulate. Millions of Americans got jammed or financially destroyed in that debacle and those two politicians emerge from the slime-pit with "their little piggie, starched white shirts" unmucked.

I give you props for finding the lost post and locating the Senators' campaign contributions, though. I could not possibly do either. I'm not savvy to the internet and it's resources.

    Regards

    Mike

PS I can't watch TV any longer, because that dreadful leak video shows up and sends me over to the dark side.
