Governors will be Governors

Remember? He lost that Commerce Secretary gig with Obama because of this investigation.
Remember? He lost that Commerce Secretary gig with Obama because of this investigation.

Man, even the L.A. Times has something on Gov. Bill Richardson’s “vindication.” He was stoked yesterday and sent out a “I knew all along” news release. But not everybody’s feeling him on that.

Know who else sounds dubious? Lt. Gov. Diane Denish. She says:

“Assuming news reports are accurate this is good news for the people of New Mexico. But the fact remains that public confidence has been eroded by the numerous investigations into possible wrongdoings by other government officials. We need strong ethics reform to make state government more open and accountable and I will continue to lead that fight.”

That probably wasn’t the vote of complete confidence Richardson’s camp was looking for. Them’s fightin’ words. And pretty campaign-y.

Speaking of, Denish’s opponent Republican Janice Arnold-Jones is holding an announcement rally at the Sheraton Albuquerque Uptown Hotel on Sunday from 4-6 p.m.

It’s rad that the next guv will probably be a woman.

mmmmm! Anyway, yikes! She's supposed to be the governor's buddy. Maybe she wants to distance herself from him as much as possible, as his approval ratings continue to sag.

  • Buddy? Nuh uh.  [ Fri Aug 28 2009 4:28 PM ]

There have been several clear indications that Denish doesn't like the man, including her criticism of his physical "touchiness" and her complaints of disparity in their respective security details.

Talk to any state employee (off the record of course; they are not allowed to talk to the press or they'll be fired(*)) and you'll hear complaints about incompetent "friends of Bill" appointees who do nothing but collect paychecks for nothing. This governor's main job is to make money for his friends, and everyone knows it. Even if prosecutors can't prove he was involved in illegal contract awards, it's so in character, that it's believable. Who knows, maybe he's truly innocent in this particular case, and the believability is exactly why someone made the story up.

The idea of Bill being "vindicated" from the charge of acting-like-Bill, is chuckle-worthy.

(*) So Denish and any other "open and accountable" candidates, I assume you will remove that restriction on your employees, right? Or are we keeping Moritomo's position (nothing against her personally) so that the press can continue to receive only sugar-coated get-them-off-our-backs "information?"

Hey Gov, here's a novel idea for the most stupid state and world's most stupid country: instead of cutting funding for education, how about talking Obama into cutting out a war? Lets stop "nation building" in Afghanistan and instead start nation building in the USA. I know,I know, we gotta get Osama, but don't you all think after 8 years it ain't gonna happen? Oh sorry, I'm talking to the dumb-shit bunch, otherwise known as Americans.

Amazingly enough, the schools just squeaked by and missed cost-cutting. Phew! Close one! After all, education just eats away the state's coffers like a Hungry Hungry Hippo, munching on money that can be used for much better purposes. You won't be as lucky next time, public education! Damn you! ::shakes fist::
