    Let's say I have this friend who got a red light camera ticket that she hasn't paid yet (and it's not overdue or anything) because she wants to wait and see how the council votes.

    If they choose to nix the program, would she still have to pay the ticket?

    It's a civil offense and not a criminal citation. Your only admission to it is that they sent it to an address you may or may not be living at, with your car you may or may not have been driving.

    It's scam. Don't pay it. The collection threats are entirely empty.

    Council spokesperson Dane Lauratzen told the Alibi that "There's a very good chance that any fines already in the system will still go through the system." I'm waiting to hear back from one of his colleagues. In the meantime, below is a link to the ordinance that's going in front of Council on Monday. Click on O-74.pdf once you get to the page. Note that even if red light cameras are revoked, the contract could still hold for 60 days.
