World Renowned Frankie Morales Leads Local All-Stars at Old Town Salsa Fiesta

Efrain "Frankie" Morales began his musical career on the streets of "El Barrio" in New York City, and sang backup for a number of Latin stars like Celia Cruz and Tito Puente. His solo albums and incredible songs have garnered him Emmys and recognition as a formidable performer.

The Grammy-winning artist will be appearing at the 12th Annual Old Town Salsa Fiesta on Saturday, September 10 from noon-7pm. Once again this year the fiesta will feature the popular Homemade Salsa Competition and live music throughout the event. As evening approaches you'll want to stay in the Old Town Plaza to hear and dance to Morales who will perform with the Albuquerque All-Stars. Don't miss this annual "hot time in Old Town!"

Salsa Fiesta fun beings at noon with those entered into the salsa-making competition beginning to roast their chiles, adding secret ingredients and prepping for the public tasting and voting that begins at 2:30pm. At 5pm first, second and third place winners will be awarded cash prizes of $1,000, $500 and $250, respectively.

New this year: Attendees will be able to get passes to taste all of the salsas at no charge. But get there early as the number of salsa-tasting passes is limited-distribution is first come, first served!

While the salsa competitors work their magic, you can enjoy the live entertainment at the Gazebo. Mala Maña wil be onstage from noon-1:30pm. This all-female ensemble brings traditional Caribbean reggaeton, the rhythms of Afro-Columbian Atlantic and Pacific Coasts and more hot, hot music to get the crowd going. Then from 1:45 - 3 p.m. Terra Plena will bring more hot Latin tunes to match the heat of the salsa being tasted by the crowd.

From 3:15-4:30pm. Sabor Canela keeps the beat with a great selection of the music of South American and the Caribbean Islands. Attendees will find themselves dancing to the beat.

From 5-7pm Frankie Morales will take the stage with The Albuquerque All-Stars, a 12-piece band of local musicians that will be coming together to perform with Morales.

This family friendly event will also feature free children's activities, food trucks and shopping.

To make getting there easier, free parking and shuttle service courtesy of Airport Parking will be available from the lot on 18th Street and Bellamah, dropping visitors at the Albuquerque Museum parking lot, where it is a short walk to the Plaza. Parking lots and street parking will also be available, but please be sure to follow all parking laws to avoid getting a citation.
