NM ShamRock Fest Will Be the Greenest Celebration in Town

Press Release [ Thu Mar 9 2017 10:00 AM ]

New to this year's NM ShamRock Fest at the Albuquerque Balloon Museum on Saturday, March 11 is the inaugural NM ShamRock 'N Roll featuring a 5K Run and Fitness Walk, a 1K Kids Fun Run and a quirky Zero K.

Use your imagination and dress creatively in your most outrageous costume or wacky race outfit to run, walk, crawl, etc. Prizes will be awarded for Best Group, Male, Female and Kids costumes.

The "All Fun, No Run" Zero K will be the perfect event for people who prefer not to break a sweat. No running allowed is the only rule. In this race, everyone is on a level playing field. Beginning at approximately 1:50pm "runners" in the Zero K will amble to the start/finish line and prepare for the shortest race of their life. Once the starter gun goes off, the race begins and participants will need to find the strength to make it to the first water station and pick up a green beer (proper ID required). Of course, no ShamRock 'n Roll would be complete without 5K Run & Fitness Walk and a 1K Kids Fun Run.

Come out to experience a unique "fun"draising event like no other. One hundred percent of the Zero K registration fee goes directly to the Balloon Museum Foundation in support of the Museum's educational and public programs.

Zero K registration fee is $15 through March 9. The 5K registration fee is $30 through March 4.

NM ShamRock 'N Roll participants receive one free admission to the NM ShamRock Fest. All race entries include a NM ShamRock 'N Roll t-shirt and other valuable items from a number of great Balloon Museum and TCR-affiliated merchants.
From 11am to 6pm, NM ShamRock Fest will feature two stages with performances by Irish singing groups, Celtic fiddle groups, bagpipe and drum bands, dancers and choral ensembles. Fest goers are invited to take part in various Celtic games alongside NM Celtic Athletics and mix it up with The Albuquerque Gaelic Football Team. Other activities include a climbing wall, remote control balloon demonstration, face painting and arts and crafts for the little ones. Handmade crafts will also be available for purchase.

There will be plenty of Celtic-themed food and treats on hand as well as nearly two dozen vendors and artisans.

Dress you and your dog in green garb and win prizes in the "Lucky Dog" Pet Parade and Costume Contest.

Additional NM ShamRock 'N Roll pricing and registration information can be found at goo.gl/ssW3GP. Admission tickets to only the NM ShamRock Fest are $2-6 (in advance) and $5-10 at the gate.

The City of Albuquerque, High Desert Pipes and Drums and TCR Race Productions are presenting this fun day. The mission of High Desert Pipes and Drums is to foster and promote Scottish culture and music, to perform locally, regionally, and throughout the western United States, and to teach the Great Highland Bagpipe & Drums in the tradition as taught by previous professional instructors from Scotland and other countries. Funds raised at NM ShamRock Fest will benefit High Desert Pipes and Drums.
