In the past week I've taken the Rapid Ride and the 66 buses up and down Central quite a bit, and I'm happy to report that it was like taking the bus in any other city, for a change. Aside from a 20 minute wait in Nob Hill around 7 p.m. on Friday, I haven't had to wait longer than about 5-10 minutes on either bus. This is an excellent turn of events. Now, if the city would just pony up and run "After Dark" hours (like Rapid Ride, which has run until 3 a.m. during the past few summers) on all buses year round, we'd be nearly set. Perhaps the city could use that $5.8 million red light camera windfall to get it started.
