New Grocery Store

Sunflower Farmer's Market has discount natural foods

So. Many. Apples.
So. Many. Apples.

Attention food-eaters: If you are financially challenged, yet have a taste for fancy-type foodstuffs, you might be pleased to know about the new grocer located in the old Thrift Town on Lomas (5112 Lomas NE), which opened last week. With one New Mexico location already in Corrales, Sunflower Farmer's Market, like Wild Oats and Whole Foods, carries organic produce, upscale meats and cheeses, natural body products and the familiar brands of processed "natural" foods, only cheaper. For instance, when I stopped in on Monday, their organic celery cost less (.88¢) than their conventional celery (.99¢). Come to think of it, the place is sort of like a really large Trader Joe's. While this newest location of the southwestern chain does not yet carry alcohol, booze-lovers will be glad to know that Sunflower will have the sauce some time in February. The store still sort of feels like the old Thrift Town, but I'm guessing that will subside as more and more patchouli and sage-laced hippies begin to shop there.
