Thursday 29

“Lost” (KOAT-7 8 p.m.) This year’s tight (not to mention truncated) season comes to an end. Finally, we get the answer to the burning question, “How the hell did the Oceanic Six get off the island?”

Friday 30

“2008 Scripps National Spelling Bee” (KOAT-7 7 p.m.) Yeah, but wouldn’t it be better if you turned the National Spelling Bee into a reality show and made all the contestants live in a camera-filled Hollywood mansion with a hot tub for the two weeks leading up to the big finals?

Saturday 31

Heatstroke (Sci-Fi 7 p.m.) Turns out aliens are responsible for global warming and it’s up to an elite commando (D.B. Sweeney) and an ex-model (Danica McKellar) to stop them. … Ah, Sci-Fi Channel.

“CBS EliteXC Saturday Night Fights” (KRQE-13 8 p.m.) Mixed martial arts crawls out of the basic cable ghetto and onto prime-time broadcast television. (Saturday night, but still.)

Sunday 1

King of Kong (G4 6 p.m.) The hit documentary about two men vying for the world record score in Donkey Kong makes its television debut. Amid all the Iraq War docs to hit screens this year, this video game-centric flick stood out as funny, dramatic and (believe it or not) exciting. Don’t miss it.

“Million Dollar Password” (KRQE-13 7 p.m.) The old celebs-and-ordinary-schmucks game show returns as a million-dollar special hosted by Regis Philbin (of course).

“Code Monkeys” (G4 8 p.m.) G4’s rudely nostalgic cartoon about 8-bit video game programmers returns for a second season of dope, wiener and Super Mario Bros. jokes.

“In Plain Sight” (USA 8 p.m.) Mary McCormack (“The West Wing”) stars in this new crime drama about the Witness Protection Program. Sounds promising, but why the hell is the premiere episode 76 minutes long?

“2008 MTV Movie Awards” (MTV 9 p.m.) You’ll probably have to sit through appearances by Tila Tequila and assorted cast members of “The Hills,” but at least Mike Myers is there to host.

Monday 2

“The Mole” (KOAT-7 9 p.m.) After five seasons, somebody at the network needs to take this moldy summer show out of the fridge and flush it down the john.

“Legally Blonde: The Musical–The Search for Elle Woods” (MTV 11 p.m.) Why, you may ask? Because finding a replacement for Sandy and Danny in the Broadway revival of Grease was so damn much fun. Next up: “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof: The Musical–The Search for the Next Big Daddy.” Mendacity! Mendacity !

Tuesday 3

“30 Days” (FX 11 p.m.) Morgan Spurlock’s docu-series returns with the host spending a month working in a coal mine. Fun!

Wednesday 4

“She’s Got the Look” (TV Land 8 p.m.) TV Land joins the search for America’s next top model. … Only without actually calling their show “America’s Next Top Model.”
